Kindle 4 & Kindle DX Graphite international comparison

First of all, this page is about comparison between Kindle DX Graphite & Kindle 4, so I will not go into so much details on both devices, if you want to read  the full of Kindle 4 international version review please click here.

I am both Kindle DX Graphite and Kindle 4 international version owner, if you are thinking about getting one of ebook reader, especially one in Kindles family, you may want to know which one is a better choice for you, a smaller, cheaper price, and brand new Kindle 4 or a classic & biggest e-ink screen ebook reader that available in the market right now. After have been spending around a year with Kindle DX Graphite and around a few months with Kindle 4 here is my thought :

For a Kindle 4, its unique features are light weight, fast processor, very sleek & slim, longer battery life (compared to Kindle DX Graphite), and cheap price, while the unique feature of Kindle DX Graphite are its great quality e-ink screen with a comfortably to read 9.7 inch display, a free 3G Global Wireless that allowed you to access to the internet almost everywhere in the world, and also a physical keyboard, Text-to-Speech feature, MP3 and web browser. Here is a comparison between these two ebook readers :

Kindle 4 vs Kindle DX Graphite : weight & size comparison – Amazon has placed Kindle DX Graphite for home use, or for persons who want to have a big screen ebook reader to read PDF at their office or university, Kindle DX weight and size is not so good for portable, it may not as heavy as IPad 2 but still not a good device to carry around, you can bring it around with you all the time like the way you carry pocketbook, imagine my everyday use bag that contains so many stuffs – laptop, IPod, headphone, my apartment key, mobile phone, wallet, I have no room for a 9.7 inch e-ink screen ebook reader !  So after purchased it for a while, I gave up for carry it around with me and ended up, left it at home.

And since I had Kindle 4, I am hardly use Kindle DX Graphite ! Kindle 4 is the dream ebook reader, its 6 inch e-ink display may not matched with every type of document, especially a graphical type, but for general text based fiction and non fiction, it is pretty good. With its weight, I can leave Kindle 4 in my bag and I am hardly notice its weight ! But in contrast, Kindle DX can display comics very well as well as charts or tables. So, I think you need to ask yourself, what type of ebook that you’ll read and graphical one, or a text based one, and if you decided to choose Kindle DX Graphite, will you ok with its weight ?

Kindle 4 & Kindle DX Graphite international order, shipping and price comparison : I had spent around 550 USD for my Kindle DX Graphite and around 180 USD for Kindle 4 !, and if you are living oversea, you have to pay tax, imported fee, handling as me as well ! Or on the other hand, you can have an IPad 2 with the same price of Kindle DX Graphite with international shipping. You need to think carefully if a Kindle DX Graphite is a right choice for you. Paying extra for almost 200 USD for Kindle DX graphite is an intolerable option, but at that time I wanted Kindle DX Graphite so bad. but with Kindle 4, I think 60 USD extra is acceptable.

If you really want to buy a Kindle DX Graphite, you may want to check Amazon’s Kindle DX Graphite page often, because the passed Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2011, Kindle DX price has been dropped to 279 USD !, if you can wait perhaps there will be a big price cut for Kindle DX Graphite before Black Friday & Cyber Monday 2013 and also a Christmas.

Kindle DX Graphite technology vs Kindle 4 technology : Kindle DX Graphite has been placed as an Amazon’s top of the line ebook reader, it has everything that a one good ebook reader should offers to an owner, a good quality with a crisp and clear 9.7 inch e-ink screen display, Text-to-Speech that allowed you to listen to your ebook while driving or walking, MP3 player, web browser, and a free 3G, but don’t forget that the technology of Kindle DX Graphite is pretty outdated, this ebook has been released before IPad 1 !, what does it mean ?, it means that you are buying an old technology here, and what you’ll get,  compared to Kindle 4, is a little bit slower page turning speed, slower menu navigation, every page refreshing, and also a slower onscreen dictionary display, if you don’t mind about the slower speed (traded for a bigger screen), I think this issue may not disturb you. While with a Kindle 4, what you’ll get is a faster processor, a faster page turn, super swiftly page navigation control for dictionary and highlight, and  don’t forget a built-in dictionary for people who live in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Brazil, and Portugal ! 

The future of Kindle DX Graphite and Kindle 4 : I think if you want to buy a Kindle 4, this is a good time, you can buy it now, and even the color e-ink screen ebook reader come out, it may take a while to matched Kindle 4′s weight and slimness, but for a Kindle DX Graphite, especially for an international one, I think you should better wait for a while, because with the price around 500 USD, I think you can buy a color e-ink screen ebook reader in a very near future.
